‘Tis the season to be sparkly, fa la la la la! With Christmas and New Years Eve coming up next month, I’ve been keeping an eye out for any makeup that will make face glisten and gleam. Since the Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick Compact promises to do just that, I got my hands on the miniature version in ‘Bronze’. Here is my review.
The product is housed in a glossy, black compact with the brand’s name emblazoned on it. The underside of a lid features a mirror, whilst the bottom holds the formula. Since the compact is a bit fragile, I would recommend saving the Styrofoam piece that comes with the compact as it cushions the formula and prevents it from shattering. The only thing I wish they would include in the packaging is an applicator or brush to make it travel-friendly. The shade name is mentioned on the accompanying box.

On the formula front, this compact is pretty amazing. The pan contains 5 finely milled shades that are arranged in strips – a pale champagne gold, a pinkish gold, a true copper, a rose gold and a deep bronze. Each of these hues goes on smoothly and evenly. The colours blend in seamlessly and can be built up for more intensity. When used together, they deliver a sun-kissed glow with a soft, shimmery finish. I use a brush to swirl the colours together before applying it as a highlighter. However, I prefer applying the shades with my fingers when I use them as eye shadows. Since the colours are quite pigmented, I require 2 coats to achieve full opacity.

I’ve been testing this product out for over 3 weeks now and have concluded that it is best reserved for special occasions. The formula stays put for over 6 hours on my cheeks. On my lids, it lasts for about 8 hours. However, if you do have oily skin, I would highly recommend using a primer beforehand to prevent premature fading. Another downside is that the shimmer tends to enhance large pores and uneven texture. This can be remedied by applying a blurring primer or foundation.
Rich, velvety and long-lasting, this compact is the quickest way to get a glowing complexion! If you aren’t planning on using this on a daily basis, I would recommend picking up the smaller size as it does last for ages.
