If I had to spend all my money on just one skincare line, it would definitely be Biologique Recherche. The brand’s P50 Lotion is single-handedly responsible for keeping my complexion sane and glowing. Whilst I definitely can’t afford to buy out their entire range (good skincare products are a real investment!), I did want to try out one of their face masks. After much research and advice from their aestheticians, I decided to pick up the highly acclaimed Masque Vivant. Here is my review.
The mask comes in a white, squeezable tube that has a very minimalistic vibe. The opening dispenses just the right amount of product and prevents wastage. The directions for use are printed on the back of the tube, whilst the ingredients are mentioned on the accompanying box.
As instructed, I first cleansed my face and then used a few drops of P50 all over to gently exfoliate it. After a few minutes, I squeezed out the mask and was surprised by the texture. Unlike any face mask I’ve encountered before, this one had a sticky consistency that made it slightly hard to spread the mask across my face. The deep brown colour isn’t exactly Instagram friendly and looks quite intimidating. Once I managed to evenly disperse a glob of the mask around my face, the colour lightened up to a sheer orange-brown. However, the consistency and hue are nothing compared to the odour! To put it simply, the mask smells exactly like fermented soya sauce. If you are sensitive to strong scents, this could definitely be a trigger for you. As the directions suggested, I left the mask to dry down for about 15-20 minutes, during which the smell slowly dissipated. When I went to rinse off the formula, I was pleased to note that it easily came off with the help of lukewarm water. However, the minute you wet the mask again, the smell returns in full force.
Before trying this mask out, I had high expectations about the results it would deliver… and it didn’t disappoint! After just one use, I noticed that my complexion looked more radiant and felt much smoother than before. Most purifying masks have a tendency to dry out my skin, but this one left behind a matte, yet hydrated finish. The best part however, was that it brought any underlying congestion up to the surface and obliterated a few stubborn blackheads.
I’ve been using this mask religiously every week for about 2 months now and cannot sing enough praises about it. Over time, it’s balanced out my complexion and kept my breakouts at bay. The brand suggests mixing the formula with a pinch of bicarbonate of soda for a more intense detoxifying effect, so I plan on trying that out the next time my pores feel clogged.
Clarifying, brightening and balancing, this face mask is as powerful as it gets! If you have combination-to-oily skin or suffer from acne, I would definitely recommend splurging and getting yourself a tube of this magical potion.
