Review: Huda Beauty Liquid Matte Lipstick In 'Cheerleader'

““Oh, I think that I’ve found myself a cheerleader!””

Apart from being the name of one of our favourite tunes, ‘Cheerleader’ is actually the name of the shade that we picked up from Huda Beauty’s line of Liquid Matte Lipsticks. Based on the overwhelming number of responses we got whilst swatching this shade on our Instagram page, we knew we had to get out a full review as fast we could!

The lipstick comes housed in a plastic, semi-opaque tube with a black top. The attached doe foot applicator is thinner than the standard, but the size helped it reach the inner corners of our lips easily. The exact shade name is printed on a sticker beneath the tube.

On application, we found that the product glided smoothly, without any tugging or streaking. However, the formula is runnier than most liquid lipsticks so it does take about a minute to dry completely. The lipstick also has a vanilla-like scent initially, which disappears once it dries. ‘Cheerleader’ is a rich, true red with a completely matte finish. Unlike other lipsticks, this one requires only a single coat to provide full coverage.

If you wear this shade to a day full of light meals and delicate sips of water, it will hold up for about 5 hours. However, it is no match for oily slices of pizza or several cups of coffee! We found that the inner rims of our pouts faded quicker than the edges, so we recommend that you tote this lipstick around for touch-ups. Whilst the formula is neither drying nor moisturizing, it tended to settle into the fine lines of our lips. On the plus side, the weightless and non-sticky texture makes it easy to forget that you are wearing a lipstick at all.

Bold, lightweight and insanely pigmented, this liquid lipstick is definitely one of the most comfortable lipsticks to wear. Pair it with a metallic shadow and you will be ready to slay the day!
