If we were to describe Gwen Stefani in 3 words, they would definitely be bold, badass and edgy. The world may love her powerful voice (as do we!), but honestly she is one of our biggest beauty inspirations. Her platinum locks and fiery pouts are always on point, whether she’s on or off stage. When we heard that she’s collaborating with Urban Decay, we knew that there would be some fabulous products in the pipeline. Naturally, we had to get something to do with red and lips, so here is our review of the 24/7 Glide-On Lip Pencil in ‘Rock Steady’.

On the outside, this lip pencil resembles Urban Decay’s eye pencils. However, the metallic gold body and black graphic design, give the product a cool, Gwen-y vibe. The format is just like a traditional pencil and requires sharpening. The shade name is printed on the product and the exact hue is depicted at the bottom.

We tested this pencil on our bare lips and found the formula to be mostly creamy and opaque. The tip makes it easy to precisely line lips, but is also soft enough to colour the entire area. If your pout is chapped, the pencil may drag and tug on those areas. Although the formula felt weightless, it had a slight stickiness to it. ‘Rock Steady’ is a muted medium red, with a completely matte finish. A single coat has enough pigment to cover your entire lips, but layering on another coat makes it last longer.

The upside to the sticky formula? The fact this product stayed, without budging or feathering, for a good 5 hours. No matter how much coffee we downed or sandwiches we ate, this colour stayed put, with minimal fading. On the negative side, we recommend prepping your lips with a heavy-duty balm as the formula can be drying. 

Transfer-proof, ultra matte and long lasting, this lip pencil embodies Gwen. We’ve used it alone and also under our usual reds, and have been floored by how fierce it makes us look. Clearly, Gwen is good at whatever she does!
