When a brand decides to revamp its entire lipstick collection, there’s bound to be madness! Urban Decay has literally wiped out its previous line of lippies and has launched 100 plus (!) new lipsticks which now come under the Vice collection. Ranging from sheers and creams, to mattes and metallic, these products include some old favourites, along with a couple of fresh shades. Since we had to try these out, we decided to go for a brand new hue from the Mega Matte range. Here is our review of ‘Hex’.
In terms of packaging, Urban Decay has mixed its past with the future. The shotgun shell casing is inspired from the brand’s original lipsticks, while the gunmetal tube and gold base give it a modern twist. Although the packaging feels lighter than its predecessor, the amount of product inside has actually increased (from 0.09oz to 0.11oz). Our favourite part however, is the embossed ‘UD’ on the lipstick bullet. The shade name and finish is mentioned on a shade-matched sticker on the bottom of the tube.
On application, the product initially felt stiff and dry. However, the formula warmed up in a few seconds and glided smoothly across our lips, with barely any tugging. True to its description, this lipstick provided bold, intense colour that went on evenly, without any patchiness. ‘Hex’ is a badass, warm burgundy hue, which has a surprising semi-matte, satin-like finish. Although one coat will give you opaque pigmentation, we do recommend layering on another to really make a statement.
Now for the main part – the longevity! The colour stayed rich and true, without any feathering or flaking, for about 6 hours. Whether we were sipping on mojitos or covertly eating a cupcake, this baby did not budge. However, the lipstick will transfer if faced with a greasy slice of pizza. Despite being a part of the matte range, this product did not dry our lips out and was comfortable to wear.
Long lasting, gorgeous and more affordable, this new lipstick is worth every penny. We can’t wait to get our hands on the other shades!
