Review: Urban Decay De-Slick Oil-Control Makeup Setting Spray

Urban Decay De-Slick Oil-Control Makeup Setting Spray

Summer – it’s all fun and games until your makeup melts. The hot sun may feel great while you are lounging by the pool, but the nightmare begins when your foundation starts slipping off. In an effort to keep the grease at bay, we went out and bought Urban Decay’s De-Slick Oil-Control Makeup Setting Spray. Here are our thoughts.

The spray comes packaged in a clean, grey and white bottle. This is an upgrade from the earlier multi-colour container. The bottle has two caps – one to protect the nozzle and one for the bottle. The sturdy, but lightweight packaging makes it perfect to travel with.

As per instructions, we sprayed the mist 4 times in an ‘X’ and ‘T’ formation across our face after our regular makeup routine. We recommend that you close your eyes tight to prevent the product from entering into your eyes. The super-fine mist went on weightlessly and colourlessly. Although the finish is shiny at first, it dries down to a matte finish after a minute. We like the fact that the spray felt cool and refreshing. The only downside was that the product has a slight clinical smell to it.

On the longevity front, our T-zone remained shine-free for about 3 hours. Despite a film of oil appearing on our face, most of our makeup stayed put for 6 hours. We found that on re-applying the spray after a couple of hours, our face stayed matte for a longer period of time. However, if you are planning on rocking a smoky eye or a bright shadow, we advise you to prep your eyes with a primer, as our eyeshadow did migrate.

Lightweight, oil-free and non-sticky, this setting spray is ideal for those with combination skin. Oily skinned ladies may require a primer underneath their makeup. Pop one into your beach bag to stay fresh and pretty through the scorching heat.

Price: USD 14 (1 oz)/ USD 30 (4 oz)
