Review: Smith & Cult Nail Lacquer In ‘Lo-Fi’
If there’s one thing that can rival my beauty addiction, it’s definitely my love for coffee! From sweet frappuccinos to cold brews, I can have coffee in almost any form or flavour (except coconut – don’t you add that to my cup!). Thus, when I came across the rich java-like Smith & Cult Nail Lacquer in ‘Lo-Fi’, it was fate. Here is my review.
Like all the lacquers from this brand, this one too comes in a round, weighted glass bottle. The trademark gold, hammered cap comes off to reveal another black, plastic cap to which the brush is attached. Although the wand is shorter than most, the brush itself bears smooth bristles and a flat tip, which help disperse the colour consistently. The exact shade name is mentioned on a sticker beneath the bottle.
In terms of formula, this one had a few hits and misses. The medium consistency allowed the lacquer to go on smoothly, without bubbling up or streaking. ‘Lo-Fi’ is a deep, espresso brown hue with a solid, creamy finish. I required 2 coats to get full coverage. However, as soon as the formula dried down, I noticed that it separated along the edges of my nails. This has never happened to me before with any other nail polish, so I was disappointed.
In the spirit of true testing, I’ve been wearing this shade on my hands for over a week now. Whilst the colour stayed rich for the first few days, it soon dulled down and began chipping slightly at the tips. Luckily, the formula is buildable so I was able to remedy the situation by applying an additional coat.
Creamy, pigmented and edgy, this shade is one of those that I’ll use when I feel like switching up my look. Although it isn’t the most long lasting one I’ve tried, it’s definitely the only one that matches my cup of coffee!
