Review: Fenty Beauty Matchstix Shimmer Skinstick In 'Trippin'

If you've been following us on Instagram, then you must have seen how our entire team, along with he rest of the world, has been freaking out over the launch of Rihanna's Fenty Beauty! Since we absolutely had to see the magic for ourselves, we rushed ourselves over to the nearest Sephora immediately after work. After ooh-ing and aah-ing over all the products for several minutes (possibly hours), I decided to do the brave thing and pick out just one purchase. Although I definitely loved the look of the purple highlighter, I knew I needed something more wearable. Thus, here's presenting my review of Fenty Beauty's Matchstix Shimmer Skinstick in 'Trippin'.

The highlighter comes in a quirky, hexagonal stick in a neutral, beige tone. Whilst the minimalistic colour of the packaging was a surprise considering Rihanna’s bold fashion choices, the fact that each stick is magnetic is uber cool. If you end up buying more than one, the tubes will stick together so that you can haul them around without losing them. The product comes in a twist-up format and has a domed tip, which permits the colour to go on uniformly. The exact shade name is mentioned on a sticker beneath the tube.

In terms of formula, this highlighter definitely lives up to the hype! The product glided on smoothly and evenly, without any tugging or patchiness. True to its claim, the texture felt quite creamy when I first applied it, but soon dried down to a powder-like finish. The thin consistency allowed me to layer on several coats and blend the colour in easily. The only negative is that the tip can get a bit dry if you leave the cap off for too long. However, using your fingers to apply the shade will help warm up the formula. ‘Trippin’ is a stunning warm peach with a lot of gold micro-shimmer particles. Whilst one coat is enough to get a subtle glow, this product looks best when you swipe on two to three coats.

I wore this baby out to a night of dancing and was so thrilled with all the compliments I got! The colour and sheen lasted for over 6 hours, with only minimal fading, despite the unintentional cardio session I underwent. Although my skin is on the sensitive side, the formula did not cause any breakouts or irritation.

Luminous, long lasting and weightless, this tube has quickly found itself a place in my makeup kit. Since it provides both colour and radiance, I’ve taken to using it when I need to head to an event or party straight from the office. Seriously though Fenty Beauty, where have you been all my life?
