Review: The Ordinary 100% Organic Cold-Pressed Rose Hip Seed Oil

The Ordinary 100% Organic Cold-Pressed Rose Hip Seed Oil

The nip in the air means it’s time to pull out my cozy sweaters and candles… but it also means that my skin is going to flake! To remedy that, I decided to get myself a bottle of The Ordinary’s 100% Organic Cold-Pressed Rose Hip Seed Oil. Here is my review.

Like the other products from the brand, this one too comes in a glass bottle with a dropper. However, since the oil is photosensitive, it comes in an amber bottle to keep the formula protected from the UV rays. The directions for use are mentioned on the bottle and the accompanying box.

The Ordinary 100% Organic Cold-Pressed Rose Hip Seed Oil

Before we get into the formula, let’s talk about rosehip seed Oil. Derived from the small fruit that sits beneath a rose, this oil is rich in fatty acids, particularly linoleic acid and linolenic acid[1]. Studies have shown that acne-prone individuals have low levels of linoleic acid in their skin surface lipids[2]. Thus, rosehip seed oil could potentially help such complexions. In addition, this oil also comprises of high concentrations of vitamin A and antioxidants. These ingredients work to tackle signs of ageing, help fade pigmentation and scars. The method of cold-pressing, which is the one that The Ordinary has employed, is one of the best ways to extract the oil.

As the directions indicate, I apply the oil as the last step in my routine, after all my water-based formulas. The slightly thick consistency can be deterring at first, however, once you warm up the oil between your palms, it goes on quite smoothly. The oil is naturally yellow in colour and has an earthy scent. An opened bottle has a shelf life of 6 months, post which you may notice a change in colour and/or fragrance. I find that 2 to 3 drops are enough to cover my entire face. The oil does leave behind a slightly tacky film but never feels heavy or uncomfortable.

I’ve been using this oil for nearly 2 months now and have been so impressed! During the colder months, I usually face dry and itchy skin, especially between my brows. After incorporating this into my regime, I actually wake up to a smoother and calmer complexion. I’ve also noticed fewer blemishes and can see a tiny improvement on some pigmentation around my cheeks. However, all skin types are not equal so it’s best to carry out a patch test first to see if you experience any irritation.

All in all, this is a great facial oil to add to your regime if your skin is similar to mine. It seals in my serums and moisturisers well, and ensures that I wake up to happier skin. What more can I ask for?
