Review: Sunday Riley C.E.O. Glow Face Oil
If there’s one skincare habit that I’ve adopted recently, it’s been the inclusion of facial oils. However, with the rising temperatures and humidity levels, the one I’ve been using has started to feel a little too heavy. Thus, I decided to pick up a bottle of Sunday Riley’s C.E.O. Glow Face Oil to see if it was worth using over the next few months of summer. Here is my review.
As with the brand’s U.F.O. Face Oil, this one too comes in a square-shaped, glass bottle. The gold cap has an attached dropper to dispense the formula. The ingredients and directions for use are printed on the accompanying box.
Before we get into the formula, let’s discuss the ingredients. The key one to note is tetrahexyldecyl ascorbate (THD ascorbate), which is a stable and oil-soluble derivative of vitamin C. Since vitamin C is notoriously unstable, I was happy to see this derivative being used instead. In addition, the formula also contains cranberry seed oil, red raspberry seed oil, evening primrose oil, jojoba oil and pomegranate seed oil. The yellow colour is thanks to the addition of turmeric. While the ingredients are promising, the colour can make it hard to determine as to when the THD ascorbate oxidizes.
In terms of consistency, this oil is as advertised. It glides easily across the skin and imparts an immediate glow. While it does not leave behind a yellow tint, it does not absorb entirely but stays on as a glossy film. For this reason, I prefer using it as the last step in my nightly routine. I use 3 to 4 drops to cover my entire face. I’ve found that it goes on better over damp skin so I pat it on a few seconds after applying my moisturiser. The formula does not have any added fragrances but does have a natural, herb-like scent to it.
I’ve been using this oil for the past month and have been quite impressed. Not only does it ensure that I don’t wake up to flaky skin but has also helped fade a few dark spots on my cheek. While I am prone to clogged pores, this oil has never resulted in zits or blackheads. The only downside is that it is not as lightweight as I had hoped it would be. I will probably continue using it but will cut down the amount I apply. If you use a gua sha or face roller, this is also a great oil to apply beforehand to prevent friction.
Nourishing and brightening, this face oil is best suited for those with dry-to-combination skin. It’s also perfect if you want to nail that Instagram-worthy glossy skin effect!
