Review: Drunk Elephant Beste No.9 Jelly Cleanser
Ever since I tried Drunk Elephant’s Protini Polypeptide Cream, I’ve been floored. Thus, when I saw the Sephora’s birthday set included a miniature version of this moisturizer and the Beste No.9 Jelly Cleanser, I was so excited to get my hands on it! Without further ado, here is my review of the brand’s face cleanser.
The product comes packaged in a cute, white squeezable tube with a neon orange cap. In this version, the cap twists up to release the formula. Although I haven’t faced any issues with this packaging, there have been reports that it does cause a bit of leakage if it isn’t closed back firmly. The full-sized tube however, has a standard flip cap, which should be sturdier. The ingredients and directions for use are printed on the back of the tube.
In terms of formula, this cleanser was a little different than I expected. Since it has been categorized as a jelly formula, I was surprised to see that the consistency was more like that of a runny gel. The cleanser spreads easily on damp skin, without irritating it. Although it goes on clear, it lathers up slightly to a white solution. If you are used to foaming formulas, you will find that this one lathers up much less as it is free of certain surfactants. It rinses off easily, without leaving a film or residue behind. Although the product has no added fragrances or essentials oils, it does have a faint, fresh scent of melons.
I’ve been using this cleanser for the past 2 weeks and have had mixed results. Whilst it works well as a morning cleanse, it doesn’t really manage to take off all my makeup at the end of the day. At night, I prefer to use it as my second cleanser after using an oil-based formula. The biggest plus point though is the formula. With a pH level of 5.5, this face wash cleanses my skin, without stripping away the moisture. Every time I use it, I find that my face feels soft, hydrated and balanced. Although my skin is prone to acne around the chin area, this formula has not caused any breakouts at all.
Effective, gentle and non-drying, this cleanser is worth it if you don’t mind splurging. I would recommend buying one of their sets so that you can get a miniature size first before spending on the bigger tube.
